    Be a guru

The Zarautz Surf Camp is our little slice of paradise just outside of San Sebastian. It’s a combination of the landscape (mountains and beaches), the intriguing Basque culture, great food, crazy parties, insane waves, and beautiful weather in which to enjoy it all.

Where else in the world are your primary concerns trying not to get too much sun and the temperature of the beer? Where each and every day is a cycle of eating, surfing and drinking, and the nights spent partying and chatting and exploring? Where else can you spend your nights in the thumping nightclubs of San Sebastian, but wake up in nature surrounded by verdant hills, rustling leaves and twittering birds.

FEELING BRAVE?! RUNNING OF THE BULLS AND ZARAUTZ BEACHSIDE SURF CAMP

Are you keen to run with the bulls at San Fermin, Pamplona? The Running of the Bulls festival officially starts on July 6 2019 and runs through until July 14 with daily Bull runs and nightly street parties. We run shuttles every day from our Zarautz Beachside Surf Camp 2019 to our Bulls base camp just outside Pamplona for just €25. So if you would like to join us there for a few days to party and run screaming from ten-tonne-testosterone-tanked toros, just email us at info@stoketravel.com and we can add that to your booking.

SURF ‘N’ BBK AND ZARAUTZ BEACHSIDE SURF CAMP

Why not combine the surf life with a music festival… Bilbao BBK Live is taking over the mountains with Rock & Pop from July 11-13, 2019. An awesome Spanish festival that takes place on top of Kobetamendi Hill, you get to experience breathtaking views, good music and a brilliant atmosphere and perfect mix of rock and pop music.

It’s perfectly timed and placed for you to head over from our camp and enjoy. Talk about convenient! Thanks universe… email us at info@stoketravel.com for more info or to add to your booking.

STOKE TRAVEL’S COMMON SENSE GUIDE TO STAYING SAFE

*If at any time you feel unsafe, please don’t hesitate to contact the onsite Noble Security team, or any member of the Stoke Travel crew who will radio for security.

As far as situations go, a Stoke Travel trip is amongst the safest. Unlike in the ‘real’ world, everybody here is intent on having a good time with new and old friends – your fellow Stokies are way more likely to hold your hair back while you puke than steal your wallet.

That being so, we’re more in danger of hurting ourselves while on a Stoke Travel trip than falling foul of our fellow travellers. Here’s a quick little guide to partying safe with Stoke Travel.

    1. Drink plenty of water.
You’re going to drink heaps of beer and sangria, and you’re going to have a plenty big hangover, but you can really limit it by smashing a few cups of water throughout the day and evening.
    2. Remember to eat!
We’re going to hook you up with a hearty breakfast and dinner, and as the bare minimum that should keep your stomach lined and engine running. Do not skip these two meals, even if you are suffering horrifically from one of the aforementioned hangovers. We also strongly advise getting a lunch in there too, maybe even every day.
    3. Zip your tent up when you’re in it and when you leave it.
Seems basic, but you’d be surprised how often drunk us forgets to do this. When you get in your tent at night make sure you zip it up to prevent unexpected rain showers from disturbing your slumber. Same goes for when you leave your tent. It’ll take two seconds to zip it up, but that’ll save you from wet clothes, chafe, and maybe even pneumonia. If you also brought your favourite pair of socks and want to make sure they’re safe, you can purchase a lock from the guru tent for only €5.
    4. Don’t be a creep.
Like, seriously, has that ever worked out for you? Similarly, if you see somebody being a creep and making people uncomfortable let us know and we’ll have a friendly word to them. Sometimes they just don’t realise how gross they are.
    5. No means no, consent matters.
At a very basic level if you hit on somebody and they say no then you’ve just got to cop that. They’re just not that into you. It sucks for about three seconds, but you’re literally surrounded by hundreds of young, like-minded travellers. Suck it up and move on. When you do find somebody who’s into you and you want to move through the bases, make sure you get consent. It really, really, really, really, really does matter.
    6. If you see somebody having a bad time, make sure they’re ok.
We are all brothers and sisters and gender non-specific relations out here. If you see somebody struggling in any way, check on them, grab a Stoke staff member and just do what any decent human being would do.

Staying safe at Stoke Travel is super easy, but sometimes we get a little out of control and forget the basics. If you ever find yourself in any kind of situation do not hesitate to contact Stoke staff, or security, and we’ll sort you out immediately. We’re here to help – help you have the best time possible. Mwah.

    What to bring

    • Your swimmers, duh!!
    • A towel
    • Your camera, to capture all the pics for the gram
    • Your best party shirt
    • Warm clothes (it can get a bit chilly at night)
    • Condoms (better safe than sorry, right?)
    • Portable phone charger
    • Sunscreen! Looking like a lobster is only cute if you’re actually a lobster
    • A water bottle to fill up. You’ll be saving the environment and staying hydrated all at the same time! How good!
    • Cash. There’s no ATM’s at the camp so you won’t be able to get cash out until you’re in the city centre

    Guides Guide

The beauty of staying at the beach camp is that you can do whatever you like, whenever you like, your way.

Wake up to a delicious cooked breakfast whether it be pancakes, bacon and eggs or a ham and cheese omelette. Head to the beach to wash away the headaches (and mistakes) of the night before. A couple of hours of surfing, relaxing, soaking up the sun and playing beach games. After surfing hard, we’ll brave that first icy cold beer of the day. There are tonnes of different activities in the surrounding region to keep everyone occupied. We can head into San Sebastian to it’s famous pintxos bars, go on free walking tours, go horse riding, paragliding, go on wine tasting tours, simply head to the beach for more surfing, or enjoy the sunshine from our camp in all its glory. Finish your afternoon activities with a freshly poured sidra on the hill, watching the sunset while enjoying a big hearty dinner to line the stomach.

    Itinerary

    Itinerary

    1

    Morning

Wake up to a homely, cooked breakfast down in our chillout area and exchange stories from last night’s antics, read the surf report and get excited to head out surfing. Jump on our surf bus and enjoy the ride down through the national park to the beach, grab your board and either scout out the best banks on the beach or head into your lesson with one of our surf instructors.

    2

    Afternoon

When your all surfed out, we’ll either have lunch in the sunshine at the beach together, or head back up to the house for a hot lunch and a cold sangria. If you’re feeling bendy join a yoga class on our yoga deck; maybe you want to head out hiking through the Basque hills that our surf house backs onto; you can choose to go into town and explore, join in on a Spanish Class, head back down to the beach for another surf; go play volleyball; you can go skateboarding; or just relax! In the afternoon you will most likely find yourself hanging out at the house watching the sun go down over a few drinks, sharing stories or becoming lord of the ping pong table.

    3

    Evening

If you’re the sensible type you can get in a good night’s sleep and be up bright and early for sunset yoga and breathtaking views out over the valley. If some more drinks, music and exploring sound more like you, then either join us on on our party nights in San Sebastian, movie nights, dinners in our favourite restaurants in the area and visiting the many festivals that dot the region in summer. a trip to a traditional Basque cider house or maybe even one of the many festivals that may be on during your stay.
