SPRINGFEST 2024: world’s best BEERS At Munich’s other beer fest
Known as Frühlingsfest in the local language, Springfest is the often overlooked alternative to Oktoberfest, taking place in April and May instead of September and October. Not to be outdone by its notorious older sibling, Springfest delivers the same big, strong German beers, delicious food, fairground rides and attractions, and beer halls packed with boozed-up crowds of revellers partying to the tune of oompah bands – just on a slightly smaller scale (and less touristy too). Stoke Travel’s all-inclusive Springfest packages include: A stay in pre-erected twin-share tents with sleeping mats and sleeping bags, a tasty chef-prepared bottomless brunch breakfast each morning with unlimited mimosas, awesome Stoke Travel campsite parties, guides to direct you to the beer halls, and an international crowd of like-minded beer lovers!
If you can’t be here for Oktoberfest, this is the next best thing
The crowds aren’t quite as big as they are for Oktoberfest, but that doesn’t mean that Springfest is any less fun – if anything, you’ll spend less time waiting for beer. Springfest attracts 100s of thousands of beer-loving partiers, and with most of them from Munich and elsewhere in Germany, the local crowd gives the festival a more authentic feel than Oktoberfest. The locals will be very happy to party with you, plus as the party is in Spring you can expect warmer weather, perfect for more outside, beer-garden style drinking that Springfest is focused on. Sitting in the sun enjoying the world’s best beer with your new German friends? Das ist gut!
In addition to the delicious and pure German beer, Springfest also features the world’s best beer-drinking food, carnival rides to test your stomach, and some features unique to the party – like the huge flea market, where the beer will help you make some impulse buys, and fireworks displays of an evening.
The Germans call Springfest Frühlingsfest, and we call our campsite Stoketoberfest, the second-best party in Munich. Stoketoberfest is Stoke Travel’s campsite and party, a festival within a festival located in Munich city and many travellers’ favourite part of the event. In addition to being where you sleep, eat and get ready for the beer halls, Stoketoberfest is a wild party, a stage show featuring DJs, an open bar, a place to buy your traditional dirndls and lederhosen, where drinking games are happening during every waking hour and the dancefloor never seems to stop, packed with like-minded travellers from all over the world. Our packages are all-inclusive, so your tent, sleeping mats and sleeping bags are all pre-prepared for your arrival, and our chefs will cook you a hearty breakfast every morning as a part of our bottomless brunch including unlimited mimosas, so your stomach is lined. Our check-in reception and onsite security both operate 24 hours a day, and our Stoke Travel crew will always be around to show you the party, both at our campsite and in the beer halls. To top it off, our open and unlimited bar serves up German beer and Spanish sangria – as much as you want for only €10 a day.
Your accommodation at Springfest is ready upon your arrival. At this festival, we’re camping in the Munich metropolitan area, only a short public transport ride from the festival itself (so bring your coins). At our Springfest campsite, you can choose from twin-share or solo tents – with sleeping mats and sleeping bags included. If you’re after something a little more luxurious, you can also book your own private teepee that can sleep groups of up to eight, or our new comfort plus option, all still conveniently located in the Stoke Travel party campsite.
This is a guide itinerary with everything in the Meet Us There package. The beauty of staying with Stoke Travel is that you can do whatever you like, whenever you like, your way.

The Stoke campground is located only 20 minutes away from the madness. We head to the festival every day on cheap and easy public transport (so don’t forget your coins), which picks us up directly in front of the campsite and drops us into central Munich, all day every day. Our Stoke guides are there to get you into the party and point you in the direction of that beautiful Bavarian beer.
ONCE YOU’VE MADE IT TO MUNICH
Metro directions to campsite
From Hauptbahnhof, or any Munich metro station, take the underground S2 towards Peterhausen and jump off at Untermenzing. Right outside the station hop on the 164 bus for three stops to Campingplatz Obermenzing. Just ask the driver or have a look on the bus route map. Jump off the bus and you’re at our doorstep. Too easy!
Metro directions from the airport
It’s very easy to get to the campsite from Munich Flughafen airport. Follow the signs in the airport to the train station. Then take the S1 underground to Laim, at Laim change over to the S2 in the direction of Peterhausen, getting off at Untermenzing. You then head out of the station to the bus stop and take the 164 bus which stops at the camping grounds: Campingplatz Obermenzing.
ACTUALLY GETTING TO MUNICH
Check out GoEuro for the best rates on buses, trains, and flights around Europe.
TRAIN IT, OF COURSE IT’S EFFICIENT.
All trains entering Munich come in to the city’s centrally-located main station (Hauptbahnhof), which is shared by the city’s rail and bus systems, providing connections to all destinations within the city and around the region. High-speed InterCity Express (ICE) trains from Hamburg, Frankfurt and Augsburg provide rapid service to Munich. The City Nightline (CNL) features comfortable sleeping quarters on its overnight services. The Deutsche Bahn has more than 25,000 miles of track, connecting all points in Germany, with international service as well. If your travel originates in the UK, British Rail has four daily scheduled trains to Munich and from Zurich, there is daily service on the train called the Bavaria. It’s very easy to get to the campsite from the train station, just follow the metro directions below.
BUSES ARE THE BESTEST.
You can travel by bus to Munich from London, Paris and many other European cities. The largest bus operator from the UK to the continent is Eurolines, operating out of London’s centrally located Victoria Coach Station. In Paris, Eurolines is located on rue Malmaison, a 35-minute Metro ride from the centre. In Munich, bus services usually terminate at the Zentraler Busbahnhof, which you will find on the north side of the Hauptbahnhof. It’s very easy to get to the campsite from the bus station, just follow the metro directions below.
Even though it’s called Springfest, you’re in Munich, so you’ll want warm clothes to sleep in and a raincoat – just incase! Aside from that, we recommend a pillow and torch for your tent, something awesome to party in, condoms (better safe than sorry) and a camera.
Do I need a separate ticket to enter the beer halls?
Nope. You just turn up and drink! Your purchase with us gets you accommodation in our campground. And access to our bar (for €10 per day). And contact with our beautiful people (no extra fee).
Are there shuttles to and from Springfest?
No, but our guides will take you on public transport so you don’t get lost, just don’t stray too far. We find that no matter how many steins one has consumed, miraculously most of our guests come back safe and sound. Munich’s cheap and easy buses and metro leave from the festival and takes you back to the campsite all day everyday – just don’t forget your coins!
Do you provide transport from Munich centre?
No, but getting around town is easypeasy thanks to Germany’s efficient transport system. Check out the ‘How to get there’ section for address and direction details.
Who do we see when we arrive?
Check in at our 24 hour Stoke Reception tent for your tent allocation and orientation.
What is the breakfast like?
Our breakfast is a chef-prepared brunch buffet of hot and cold food, including bottomless mimosas. Our chefs are very talented and can also cater for any dietary requirements, just make sure to email us in advance.
How many people can fit in the tents?
We have two-man tents and 8 man teepees, as well as our comfort plus tents available to book, which can fit three people comfortably. Otherwise, if you’re a group of 3, one of you will be paired with a new friend of the same sex. For those anti-social humans, we offer private tents for a small additional fee. We understand our guests’ needs…… maybe a little extra room for a special someone if the night leads there? Reach out to info@stoketravel.com with your booking ID if you’d like to upgrade before your trip or to ask about teepee availability.
What amenities are offered at the campsite?
The campsite offers spacious bathrooms and hot showers for a €1 token purchased at reception, restaurant/cafe, vending machines and a little essentials store. WiFi and charging stations are sparse but available in certain areas, and tokens are sold at the campsite reception for laundry facilities.
Where can we buy Lederhosen and Dirndls?
We sell traditional festival costumes – you can pre-order these or add them to your booking onsite, as well as awesomely stylish Stoke hoodies, tee- shirts, beanies and knick-knacks.
If we are camping does that mean we’ll be attacked by wild animals?
We serve unlimited alcohol at our camps. You, my friend, will be the wild animal.
Where is Starbucks?
Near Hauptbahnhof in Zentrum of Munich, there are plenty.
Are there lockers?
Yes there are lockers, however there is only a limited number and they are allocated on a first come first serve basis. We will be selling locks at the campsite for €5, which you will be able to use to secure your bag or your tent.
Will there be showers?
Yes there are showers at the campsite, that are cleaned daily. You are able to purchase a hot water token for €1, which will gives you 6 minutes of hot water.

I travelled with these guys for Springfest and had an absolute blast. I met some great people there and still keep in touch with them. Stoke really make you feel like part of the family and you feel super welcome, you’ve gotta be party loving and open-minded to travel with them. I loved partying with them this year and hope to get on some more trips with them. Cheers Stoke!
